KTU CS S6 — 2019 Scheme

Semester 6 completes the core CS theory curriculum. Compiler Design (CST302) is one of the most technically demanding subjects in the degree — it combines Formal Languages from S5 with Systems Software concepts to explain how compilers actually work. Algorithm Analysis and Design (CST306) introduces complexity theory and classic algorithms — directly critical for placements and GATE.

Computer Graphics and Image Processing (CST304) covers 2D/3D transformations, rendering, and basic image processing. CST308 Comprehensive Course Work is the S6 GATE-style internal exam covering six core CS subjects from S3-S5. CSD334 Mini Project gives you a small-scale development project to complete. How to Prepare for KTU CS Semester 6

Compiler Design and Algorithm Analysis are the two biggest time investments this semester — both are also among the most placement-critical subjects in the degree.

CST302 Compiler Design — lexical analysis (regular expressions to DFA), parsing techniques (LL, LR), and syntax-directed translation are the most exam-heavy areas. Build on your S5 Formal Languages foundation.

CST306 Algorithm Analysis and Design — time/space complexity analysis, Master theorem, and algorithm design paradigms (Divide & Conquer, Dynamic Programming, Greedy) are directly tested in both exams and placements. This is also a major GATE topic.

CST304 Computer Graphics — 2D transformation matrices, 3D projections, clipping algorithms (Cohen-Sutherland, Cyrus-Beck), and hidden surface removal are the main numerical areas.

CST308 Comprehensive Course Work — this GATE-style exam covers DS, OS, DBMS, Networks, Formal Languages, and Algorithms from S3-S5. Treat it seriously — it's great placement and GATE prep.

CSD334 Mini Project — start early and pick a scope you can genuinely complete. A focused, working project is evaluated better than an ambitious one that's half-done.

Program Elective I — if you're targeting GATE or ML roles, CST312 Foundations of ML or CST322 Data Analytics are strong choices. For security-oriented careers, CST332 is relevant.
