Overview

2019 vs 2024

KTU introduced the 2024 scheme for students admitted from 2024-25 onwards. If you are on the 2019 scheme, nothing changes for you — you complete your degree under the old scheme. But if you are a new student or trying to understand what is different, this page breaks it down clearly.

The core structure remains similar — 8 semesters, S1 and S2 common to all branches, 10-point grading, and the same CGPA to percentage formula. The changes are in credit count, elective options, assessment methods, and an expanded CS branch with 11 specialisations.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about the difference between the two KTU schemes.

Q01

Can a 2019 scheme student switch to the 2024 scheme?

No, you complete your degree under the scheme you were admitted in. There is no provision to switch between schemes midway.

Q02

Is the 2024 scheme harder than the 2019 scheme?

The 2024 scheme has more credits and new evaluation components like Level 5 external viva. Whether it is harder depends on the subject and branch. The updated syllabus includes more industry-relevant content, which may feel different from the older 2019 scheme.

Q03

Does the CGPA to percentage formula differ between schemes?

No — both use the same formula: Percentage = CGPA × 10. This was standardised by the KTU Academic Council in June 2023 and applies to both schemes.

Q04

Is coaching available for both 2019 and 2024 scheme subjects?

Yes — BTechTutor provides coaching for all subjects under both schemes. Call or WhatsApp +91 98950 09337 to discuss your specific needs.
