Introduction

KTU CS S1 — 2024 Scheme

Semester 1 of KTU CS under the 2024 scheme is Group A — the same group as IT, Data Science, Cyber Security, and other CS specialisations. The first semester is largely common across all Group A branches, with Engineering Graphics, Introduction to EEE, Algorithmic Thinking with Python, and Mathematics forming the core. For CS students, Python (UCEST105) is arguably the most career-relevant S1 subject — the programming logic you build here directly feeds into Data Structures (S3), Algorithm Design (S5), and Machine Learning (S5).

Engineering Graphics (GMEST103) surprises many CS students — a drawing-based subject feels out of place in a computer science degree. But it builds spatial reasoning and precision thinking that is genuinely useful. Introduction to EEE (GXEST104) gives you the circuit theory foundation needed for Computer Organisation and Architecture (S4).

How to Prepare for KTU CS Semester 1 (2024 Scheme)

UCEST105 Algorithmic Thinking with Python is your most important S1 subject as a CS student — write actual code every day.

UCEST105 Algorithmic Thinking with Python is your most important S1 subject as a CS student. Write actual code every day — loops, functions, recursion. The programming logic here is the foundation for everything from S3 Data Structures onwards.

GAMAT101 Mathematics-1 — the linear algebra and calculus you learn here directly supports Machine Learning in S5. Build the concepts properly instead of just exam-passing.

GMEST103 Engineering Graphics needs daily drawing practice. Read the theory, then draw. Two problems a day is enough — do not leave it for last-minute revision.

GXEST104 Introduction to EEE — the Electronics part (diodes, transistors) connects directly to Digital Electronics (S3). Pay equal attention to both parts.

GXESL106 Workshop carries internal marks. Attend regularly and understand what you are building.

Complete the Digital 101 NASSCOM MOOC (UCSEM129) before S1 ends — the credit is recorded in S2 grade card, and completing it early removes pressure later.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about KTU KTU CS S1 — 2024 Scheme resources and coaching.

Q01

What are the subjects in the KTU CS S1 2024 scheme?

S1 includes GAMAT101 Mathematics-1, GAPHT121/GXCYT122 Physics or Chemistry (S1/S2 slot), GMEST103 Engineering Graphics, GXEST104 Intro to EEE, UCEST105 Python, GXESL106 Basic EEE Workshop, UCHWT127/UCHUT128 Health and Wellness or Life Skills (I-slot), and UCSEM129 Digital 101 NASSCOM MOOC.

Q02

Is KTU CS S1 2024 different from the 2019 scheme?

Yes. Python (UCEST105) is a new addition in 2024. Engineering Graphics moves to S1 in 2024. Introduction to EEE (GXEST104) is also new. The 2024 scheme also introduces the Digital 101 NASSCOM MOOC.

Q03

Is prior programming knowledge needed for Python in S1?

No. UCEST105 starts from the basics. But consistent daily practice is essential as the algorithmic thinking component builds quickly.

Q04

What is GMEST103 Engineering Graphics in KTU CS S1?

GMEST103 covers orthographic projections, isometric views, sectional views, and basic CAD. It carries 3 credits with 40 CIA and 60 ESE marks.

Q05

Why is Engineering Graphics in a CS programme?

Engineering Graphics builds spatial reasoning, precision, and systematic thinking — skills relevant to UI/UX design, system architecture diagrams, and hardware-software interface understanding.

Q06

Are KTU CS S1 notes free on BTechTutor?

Yes. Free notes and PYQs for all KTU CS S1 subjects are available on BTechTutor.

Q07

Does BTechTutor offer coaching for KTU CS S1?

Yes. Video classes for Mathematics-1 and Algorithmic Thinking with Python are available. Call +91 9895006772 for details.
