Introduction
Semester 7 is when KTU CS students specialise. Two Programme Electives (PE-4 and PE-5), one Open Elective (OE-2), an HMC Elective, a Seminar, and either a Major Project or a full-semester industry internship define this semester. The elective options in S7 cover a wide range — from Formal Methods in Software Engineering and Web Programming to Embedded Systems, Blockchain, Real-time Systems, Computer Vision, and Algorithms for Data Science.
Students who choose an internship can attend elective theory through self-study or university-approved MOOCs. The Seminar (PCCSS705) is a 2-credit technical presentation on a current CS topic. Choose your PE-4 and PE-5 based on your career direction — whether that is software development, AI/ML, security, or research.

S7 is specialisation-heavy — the electives you pick and the project-or-internship decision you make will shape your final year experience.
Choose PE-4 and PE-5 based on career direction. For AI/ML careers, Computer Vision (Level-5) pairs well with Responsible AI or Algorithms for Data Science. For security roles, Information Security pairs well with Digital Forensics or Fundamentals of Cryptography from S6.
Web Programming and Embedded Systems (both PE-4) suit product-development and hardware-adjacent careers respectively. Blockchain and Cryptocurrencies is a strong choice if you're targeting fintech or Web3 roles.
The Seminar (PCCSS705) is evaluated on presentation quality and technical depth — pick a genuinely current topic and start preparing your slides and report well before the presentation date.
Decide early between the Major Project and a full-semester industry internship — both are valid paths, but each requires different preparation and planning from the start of the semester.
OE-2 lets you build a skill outside your core specialisation — Cloud Computing and Mobile Application Development are strong choices if you haven't already covered them as a Programme Elective.
Keep placement and GATE preparation timelines running in parallel with S7 — many students juggle both alongside electives and project work this semester.
PE-4: PECST741 Formal Methods in Software Engineering, PECST742 Web Programming, PECST743 Bioinformatics, PECST744 Information Security, PECST746 Embedded Systems, PECST747 Blockchain and Cryptocurrencies, PECST748 Realtime Systems, PECST749 Approximation Algorithms (5 credits), PECST745 Computer Vision (Level-5), PECST795 Topics in Theoretical Computer Science (Level-5). PE-5: PECST751 Advanced Computer Networks, PECST752 Responsible Artificial Intelligence, PECST753 Fuzzy Systems, PECST754 Digital Forensics, PECST756 Game Theory and Mechanism Design, PECST757 High Performance Computing, PECST758 Programming Languages, PECST759 Parallel Algorithms, PECST755 Internet of Things (Level-5), PECST785 Algorithms for Data Science (Level-5). OE-2 (offered by CS for other branches): OECST721 Cyber Security, OECST722 Cloud Computing, OECST723 Software Engineering, OECST724 Computer Networks, OECST725 Mobile Application Development.
Level-5 courses carry 5 credits (3 regular + 2 additional), subject to eligibility conditions. PECST749 Approximation Algorithms carries a flat 5 credits.
