Design of Concrete Structures I — commonly called RCC Design — is the subject Civil students either embrace or find incredibly stressful. How to Prepare for KTU Civil Semester 5

RCC Design and Structural Analysis II are the two biggest time investments this semester — pair them with the IS codebook and consistent numerical practice.

CE301 RCC Design I — always design with IS 456 open beside you. The code is your guide for this subject. Know the key clauses and design tables, and practice at least 15-20 full design problems from past papers.

CE303 Structural Analysis II — start with slope deflection method before moving to moment distribution and Kani's method. Indeterminate structures need a systematic approach — understand the method, then practice numerically.

CE305 Geotechnical Engineering II — Terzaghi's bearing capacity equations and pile load formulas are exam staples. Work through past KTU questions systematically — question patterns here are very consistent.

CE309 Water Resources Engineering — hydrology and rainfall-runoff calculations are the most exam-relevant portions. The irrigation design section is scoring if you prepare the design formulas properly.

CE307 Geomatics — this is a relatively modern subject covering GIS and remote sensing. It is scoring and less numerically intensive than the other S5 subjects. Don't neglect it in favour of RCC prep.
