Information Technology at KTU sits very close to Computer Science — the two branches share several subjects, especially in S1-S4. But from S3 onwards, IT has its own identity — Digital System Design, Data Communication, Software Architecture, and a stronger emphasis on networking, web technologies, and distributed systems compared to CSE. If you're an IT student, you're essentially being trained to design, manage, and scale real-world technology systems.

KTU IT S3 (2019 scheme) includes IT201 Digital System Design, IT203 Data Communication, CS201 Discrete Computational Structures (shared with CSE), CS205 or equivalent Data Structures, MAT203 or equivalent Maths, IT231 Digital Circuit Lab, CS231 Data Structures Lab, and EST200/HUT200.
Neither is consistently harder than the other — they're different in emphasis. IT has Digital System Design, Data Communication, and Distributed Systems where CSE has Logic System Design, System Software, and Algorithm Analysis. Both have Theory of Computation and similar core CS subjects in S4-S5.
