What subjects are in KTU CS S5 under the 2024 scheme?
S5 includes Computer Networks, Design and Analysis of Algorithms, Machine Learning, Microcontrollers (PBL), PE-2, Constitution of India MOOC, Networks Lab, and ML Lab.
Semester 5 is one of the most placement-relevant semesters in KTU CS. Computer Networks and Design and Analysis of Algorithms directly define technical interview performance, and Machine Learning arrives early here.

Semester 5 is one of the most placement-relevant semesters in KTU CS. Computer Networks (PCCST501) and Design and Analysis of Algorithms (PCCST502) are two subjects that directly define technical interview performance — Networks for networking and cloud roles, DAA for software engineering and GATE. Machine Learning (PCCST503) in S5 is early by Indian university standards — most programmes put ML in the final year, but KTU CS 2024 places it in S5, giving students a full year before graduation to build on it.
Microcontrollers (PBCST504) is the PBL subject — 60 CIA marks — covering embedded programming, I/O interfacing, and hardware-software integration. S5 also has the industrial visit window (S5/S6) and the Constitution of India MOOC.

Buy CourseDesign and Analysis of Algorithms and Computer Networks carry the heaviest weight this semester — both are also core placement and GATE topics.
PCCST502 Design and Analysis of Algorithms is your most GATE-relevant S5 subject. Master Big-O analysis, dynamic programming (knapsack, LCS, matrix chain), and graph algorithms (Dijkstra, Bellman-Ford, Floyd-Warshall) with worked problems.
PCCST501 Computer Networks — the OSI model and TCP/IP stack are non-negotiable. Learn subnetting until you can calculate subnet masks without reference. High-weightage in GATE CS and placement interviews.
PCCST503 Machine Learning — implement algorithms in Python using scikit-learn alongside your theory study. Understanding what the maths means is more valuable than just running code.
PBCST504 Microcontrollers is PBL — 60 CIA. Build working interfacing projects. Your embedded C code, project submissions, and lab practicals define your internal score.
For PE-2, Data Analytics (PECST523) pairs well with ML. Artificial Intelligence (PECST522) extends your AI foundation. Advanced Graph Algorithms (Level-5) is excellent for GATE and competitive programming.
Complete the Constitution of India MOOC (UCHUM506) early — it is mandatory and should not be left for crunch time.
PECST521 Software Project Management, PECST522 Artificial Intelligence, PECST523 Data Analytics, PECST524 Data Compression, PECST526 Digital Signal Processing, PECST527 Computer Graphics and Multimedia, PECST528 Advanced Computer Architectures, PECST525 Data Mining (Level-5 — 5/3 credits), PECST595 Advanced Graph Algorithms (Level-5 — 5/3 credits).
Level-5 courses carry 5 credits (3 regular + 2 additional), subject to eligibility conditions.

Yes. PCCST503 Machine Learning is a Programme Core subject in S5 carrying 3 credits with 40 CIA and 60 ESE marks.
Extremely useful. Design and Analysis of Algorithms (PCCST502) covers topics that are among the highest-weightage in GATE CS — complexity analysis, dynamic programming, and graph algorithms.
PCCSL507 covers socket programming, network configuration practicals, protocol analysis using Wireshark, and basic networking experiments. It carries 2 credits.
Yes. Industrial visits are permitted in the S5/S6 window — maximum 12 days, not exceeding 6 working days in S5.
